Antigonish Bantam Royals captured the Amherst Invitational basketball tournament Sunday afternoon. Antigonish Royals defeated Amherst 51-23 in the championship game of the Amherst Invitational Bantam girls’ basketball tournament Sunday afternoon.
Guard Meghan MacDonald scored 22 points in the victory, while Brittany Connors added eight points. Sarah McCarron chipped in with six points and Elise Breen added five points. Connors was the player of the game.
The Royals, coached by Shaun Scott and Lee McCarron, opened the tournament with a 48-28 win over St. Margaret’s Bay.
Brianna Gottschall scored nine points in the game with MacDonald and Abby MacIntosh each contributing eight points. Game star Riley Sood had six points in the contest.
The Royals handed Kentville a 70-32 loss.
MacDonald and MacIntosh each scored 16 points, while McCarron added 11 points. Connors and Sood each scored eight points, with MacIntosh meriting game star accolades.
The Royals advanced to the final with a 61-39 victory over Eastern Passage.
MacIntosh scored 13 points and Gottschall and Connors each chipped in with nine points. McCarron added eight points in the victory. Gottschall was the game star for Antigonish.
