The Antigonish Bantam Royals won the Logistec Winter Classic Invitational basketball tournament at Whitney Pier Junior High last weekend. The Antigonish Bantam Royals won the Logistec Winter Classic Invitational Basketball Tournament hosted at Whitney Pier Junior High School last weekend.
The Royals opened the tournament with a 47-42 win over Malcolm Munroe Jr. High School.
Meghan MacDonald scored 20 points, earning player of the game honours. Brittany Connors added 12 points with Sarah McCarron chipping in with nine.
The Royals faced the host club Saturday morning coming out on the short end of a 32-30 score.
Game star Connors and Gemma MacPherson each scored nine points, while MacDonald scored eight.
The Royals handed Thompson Jr. High a 54-26 loss with MacDonald leading the team offensively with 14 points.
Connors and Abby MacIntosh contributed 12 and eight points, respectively.
In semi-final action Sunday morning the Royals earned a 50-44 win over New Glasgow Jr. High.
MacDonald scored 18 points in the victory with MacPherson adding nine. Grace Weaver and McCarron contributed eight and six points, respectively. McCarron merited game star accolades for the Antigonish squad.
The championship game featured the Royals and Whitney Pier with Antigonish claiming a 37-33 win.
MacDonald was the scoring leader with 15 points and Connors added 11. Weaver was the player of the game.
MacDonald merited tournament most valuable player honours, while Connors earned a berth on the all-star team.
