The $16.8 million contract for the completion of the eight kilometer phase 1 section of Highway 104 construction from Addington Forks to east of Beech Hill Road, has been awarded to Dexter Construction.
Project manager Sheena Sampson said the announcement is in regards to the paving and she expects a starting time around May 1 with a scheduled completion date of Oct. 31, 2012.
Sampson said the contract for phase 2, clearing work, is out to tender now and should close at the end of the month.
“And we’re scheduled to have the South River Bridges being called this year,” she added. “The rest of the things we call are kind of still up in the air depending on design, funding, those kinds of things.”
As for how much work has been going on during the wet and cold winter months, Sampson talked about what can still be worked on.
“(At the) West River they’ve been able to move along quite well,” she said. “The work they’re doing there, placing steel girders, they’re able to do that any time of the year so weather hasn’t really held them back, On Trunk 7 they’ve been able to do some work around the structure but it’s kind of weather dependent. So once the weather gets better, come spring and May, they should be able to go full force there.”
