Local taekwondo club finishes second

Antigonish Taekwondo Club hosted 14 clubs from across the Maritimes in action, Oct. 1, at Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School.

A total of 135 athletes competed in the event.

Inner Strength Taekwondo, from Fall River, took team honours, with the Antigonish squad finishing second. Island Martial Arts, from Sydney, finished in third place.

Jeremy Reeve, coach of the Xavier Club, said his athletes fared well in the competition.

Gold medallists from the Xavier Club were Aidan MacDonald, Rebekah Pitts, Mary-Beth Stewart and Leah Grant, with Pitts, Cameron Fraser, Jack Lowther, Mark Lukeman, Sadie Delorey, Keith Allen, Ewan MacDuff, Keira MacDuff and Amber Whitehead taking silver.

Bronze medallists included Simon Bannerman, Oscar Colquitt, Grant McPhee, Maira Lukeman, Zachary Kelly and Divjot Kalsi.
