The Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s will be the place to be this Saturday, Feb. 18, as their recreation department hosts the first St. Mary’s Winter Fun-Fest Day.
‘For all things fun, festive and freezing,’ the event’s tag-line reads.
“February can be, kind of, a down month so we thought, what can we do to liven things up,” Carla Archibald, recreation programmer with the municipality, said.
The list to ‘liven things up,’ with most activities happening in and around Sherbrooke, includes the day starting with a pancake breakfast, followed by horse and carriage rides starting in the Sherbrooke Village parking lot.
The day continues with a nature walk through Stone Wall Park, ‘Big Rigs’ which is Sherbrooke Fire Department and EHS displaying their gear and vehicles, a sledding-bonfire-and S’mores event from the church hill in the Village, free skating at the RecPlex and concluding with a magic show by the Amazing Mr. J. Magic Show.
The free skate will include appearances from the Ice Queen, Ice Princess and Spider-Man, courtesy of Little Princess Parties (and Superheroes), as well as face painting, temporary tattoos, music, a photo booth and, as a promotional brochure on the day states, “so much more.”
“The magic show is the only thing people have to buy tickets for,” Archibald said, noting they can preordered by phone at 902-522-2598.
“We’re hoping to see a good turnout then, maybe next year, make it a bigger event,” she said. “Make it longer; the whole weekend.”
