PHAST competes at Tigers’ meet

Port Hawkesbury Antigonish Swim Team members Alex Penner (back left), Lily Poffenroth, Colleen MacLeod, Matthew Penner, Malcolm Cameron, Josh Elsworth, Maxim Reim (middle left), Abby Poffenroth, Hannah Austen, Emma Crispo, Anna Robinson (front left), Riley Avery, Mariah Austen, Ali McLellan and Lilly MacLean took part in the Dalhousie Tigers’ Relay and Individual Medley meet, Oct. 21 and 22.

The Port Hawkesbury Antigonish Swim Team (PHAST) sent several junior and senior age group swimmers to the Dalhousie Tigers’ Relay and Individual Medley meet, Oct. 21 and 22.

The men’s relay team of Malcom Cameron, Joshua Elsworth, Matthew Penner and Maxim Reim took fourth place in the 800m freestyle. The women’s 14 and over team of Hannah Austen, Colleen MacLeod, Abby Poffenroth and Anna Robinson swam to fourth place in the same event.

The women’s 13 and under relay team of Mariah Austen, Ali McLellan, Lily Poffenroth and Anna Robinson captured fourth in the 200m medley relay and fifth in the 200m freestyle. The men’s 15 and over team of Malcom Cameron, Josh Elsworth, Alex Penner and Maxim Reim took fourth in the 400m freestyle relay.

Fifteen PHAST swimmers took to the water individually on day two of the competition, raking up the top eight finishes.

Hannah Austen captured first in both the 200m breaststroke and 400m medley, third in the 200m freestyle, fourth in the 50m backstroke and sixth in the 100m butterfly.

Mariah Austen took first in the 200m backstroke, and fourth in the 50m freestyle.

Riley Avery swam to a first place finish in the 200m backstroke, freestyle, and 400m backstroke, and sixth in the 50m butterfly. Malcom Cameron took second in the 100, breaststroke, fourth in the 200m backstroke, fifth in the 400m freestyle and seventh in the 200m freestyle.

Emma Crispo placed fifth in the 50m breaststroke and sixth in the 50m freestyle. Josh Elsworth swam to first in the 200m and 400m freestyle, second in the 50m butterfly, 50m breastroke, and 200m backstroke. Lily MacLean set great times in her first age group meet.

Colleen MacLeod swam to first place in the 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, and 100m and 400m freestyle. Ali McLellan took first in the 50m butterfly, fourth in the 400m freestyle and seventh in the 200m freestyle. Alex Penner stroked to second place in the 50m butterfly and 200m breaststroke, third in the 100m freestyle, fourth in the 400m freestyle, and fifth in the 50m backstroke.

Matthew Penner captured first in the 200m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, and 400m IM, third in the 200m backstroke, and fifth in the 50m butterfly. Maxim Reim swam to first place in the 100m breaststroke, second in the 100m butterfly and third in the 400m freestyle.

Abby Poffenroth placed second in the 100m breaststroke, fourth in the 400m freestyle, fifth in the 200m backstroke and 100m freestyle and seventh in the 400m freestyle. Lily Poffenroth placed second in the 50m freestyle, sixth in the 50m breaststroke and seventh in the 400m freestyle. Anna Robinson took first in the 200m backstroke, second in the 200m breaststroke, third in the 400m freestyle, fifth in the 200m freestyle and sixth in the 50m butterfly.
