In recent Antigonish Rural League action, the league-leading Pleasantdale Panthers continued their winning ways, while the County Outlaws tightened the race for second place, with a narrow 6-5 win over the St. Croix Angels.
Played Dec. 2, the Panthers downed the Heatherton Warriors 6-2 led by Mike DeCoste’s two goals and two assists.
Garrett Lambke added a goal and three assists in the win while Ethan March scored once and added two helpers. Brennan Fraser and Mack Derraugh scored the other Pleasantdale goals while defenseman Floyd MacDonald recorded two assists.
Tim Teasdale and Burton Chisholm scored for the Warriors with Reilly Bowie assisting on both goals.
Josh Landry scored twice for the Outlaws in their win, with Tim MacDougall registering three assists.
Craig Rankin had a goal and two assists while Garret Holmes recorded a goal and one helper, and Innis MacDonald and Dave McCarty completed the scoring for the victors.
Tim MacPherson had two goals for St. Croix while Ryan Chisholm and Bryden Boudreau each recorded a goal and an assist.
Steve Anderson had two assists and Jeremy Gillis the other Angels’ goal.
After nine games, Pleasantdale has 23 points on a seven-win, one-loss and one-overtime loss, record. St. Croix is second with 15 points on a five-win and four-loss record, the Outlaws with 13 points on a four-win, four-loss and one-OT loss record, and the Warriors, at one-win and eight-losses, with three points.
Last-year’s scoring champ, Pleasantdale’s Brandon Verge, continues to lead the point-parade this season, with 22 points on 16-goals and six-assists, while teammate Lambke sits second with 16 points (five-goals, 11-assists).
This Saturday’s (Dec. 16) early game, a 7 p.m. puck-drop, sees Heatherton facing-off against the Outlaws; while it’s St. Croix versus Pleasantdale at 8:30 p.m.
