Host Bulldogs advance to final

The Antigonish Pee Wee ‘AAA’ Bulldogs went all the way to the final of the Bill Chisholm Memorial Tournament, Dec. 10, before dropping a 5-2 decision to Acadia.

Acadia took a 3-0 lead into the final period of the championship game, at the Antigonish Arena, and while the Bulldogs were able to get on the board twice, their two goals were matched by their Valley-based opponents.

Brody MacPherson, on an unassisted effort, and Tyler Peddle, from Owen Juurlink, scored for Antigonish.

On their way to the title game, the Bulldogs posted a perfect 4-0 record which included a 3-1 semifinal win over the South Shore Sharks

Peddle scored twice in the win with MacPherson adding a third-period insurance marker.

Daniel Chiasson added two assists for the Bulldogs with Luke Cormier adding one helper.

Antigonish picked up wins over Acadia (2-1), the Cape Breton County (CBC) Islanders (6-1) and Cape Breton West (CBW) Islanders (5-0) in round-robin play.

Peddle and Alex MacIsaac scored in the Acadia game with Marcus Pelly-Conrad and Kevin Walker earning an assist each.

Peddle recorded a hat-trick versus Cape Breton County and he was joined by MacPherson, Cormier and Walker in potting goals.

Chiasson had two assists in the contest and single helpers were recorded by Juurlink, Peddle, Cohen Pictou and Leyton Stewart.

Versus CBW, it was Peddle with two, and MacPherson, Cormier and Riley Sampson with one each.

Assists in the win went to Peddle, Chiasson, Stewart, Cormier, MacIsaac and Cameron Bell.

Goaltenders for the Bulldogs are Jack Milner and Rhyah Stewart and the team is coached by Dave Stewart, assisted by Jamie Mattie.


In Cape Breton West’s other two round-robin games, they defeated their Cape Breton rivals, the CBC Islanders, 3-1, and lost to tournament champs Acadia 9-1.

Scoring in the win was Neil MacKinnon, with two, and Jeremey MacDougall.

Blake MacDonnell and Angus Aucoin each recorded an assist in the game.

Jayden Dunphy, from Ethan MacLean, scored versus Acadia.

Dan Morrison and Kenny Gillis are the goaltenders for CBW.
