Port Hawkesbury Antigonish Swim Team members recorded sweet times at the Candy Cane Invitational Meet held at Centennial Pool, Halifax Dec. 15 to 17.
The 22 member squad, some of whom were swimming at age group level for the first time, powered through the three day meet, dropping times and capturing top eight finishes, medals and new team records.
Malcom Cameron swam to eight in the 200m individual medley, fourth in the 200m breaststroke, bronze in the 100m breaststroke and silver in the 50m breaststroke, setting new team records in all breaststroke events.
Aidan Doucet powered to eight in the 100m & 200m freestyle, sixth place in the 50m freestyle, fourth in the 50m backstroke, bronze in the 50m butterfly and silver in the 100m butterfly, setting new team records in both butterfly swims.
Joshua Elsworth captured sixth in the 200m individual medley.
Matina Kanchanatip stroked to fifth in the 100m backstroke and fourth in the 50m backstroke.
Cora Kehoe placed eighth in the 100m freestyle.
Cein Kennedy took eighth in the 200m backstroke.
Colleen MacLeod stroked to seventh in the 50m freestyle, fifth place in the 50m backstroke, the 200 and 100m freestyle and took bronze in the 50m breaststroke.
Matthew Penner took eight in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, sixth in the 200m individual medley, fifth in the 50m butterfly, and bronze in the 400m freestyle.
Abby Poffenroth swam to eighth in 200m individual medley and 200m freestyle, fourth in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m breaststroke setting four new team records.
Lily Poffenroth took seventh in 50m backstroke, sixth in the 100m butterfly and silver in 100m freestyle.
Maxim Reim swam to sixth in the 100m butterfly.
Anna Robinson powered to sixth in the 200m backstroke, fifth in the 50m backstroke and 400m freestyle and captured bronze in the 200m butterfly setting four new team records.
The above mentioned swimmers with their teammates Hannah Austen and Ali McLellan formed relay teams who captured bronze in the 200m women’s 14 to15 freestyle relay, fourth in the men’s 200m relay and fourth in the women’s under-14 200m relay.
The mixed 400m relay teams swam to seventh and fourth place. PHAST will be training over the holiday for the upcoming championship season.
