The Antigonish Kinsmen, along with town and county volunteer firefighters, will conduct their annual tree mulching event Saturday (Jan. 6).
They will receive and chip unwanted Christmas trees, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Antigonish Market Square parking lot (front left towards Canadian Tire).
Trees are turned into a useful product – approximately five dump-truck loads of mulch are produced.
Trees, which must be delivered on the day of the mulching, should not include any decorations, wire, plastic, glass and metal.
Organizers noted the hard work of volunteers on such a busy day, so people are asked, again, to only drop off trees on Saturday, so volunteers will not have to dig them out of snow and ice.
Although it is a free service, non-perishable food donations will be accepted for the Antigonish Community Food Bank.
Along with the tireless effort of the Kinsmen members and firefighters, the tree mulching receives support from Antigonish Market Square, Eastern Sanitation Limited, ASPLUNDH Tree Services, Kell’s Enterprise, Antigonish Rent All, 1015 the Hawk, 989 XFM, Town of Antigonish and the Municipality of the County of Antigonish.
