Murdock MacLellan scored two goals, including the overtime winner, as St. Croix nipped Heatherton, 3-2, in recent Antigonish Rural League hockey play.
MacLellan also assisted on Bryden Boudreau’s goal in the win and Boudreau returned the favour, contributing a helper to one of MacLellan’s markers.
Mark Fougere and Tim Teasdale scored for the Warriors.
In the other game, Pleasantdale received a big night from Cory MacLellan, who registered a hat-trick along with an assist, as they downed the County Outlaws 7-3.
Tyson Ball scored twice and added two assists for the Panthers while Dave MacPherson and Brett Murphy each scored once and added an assist, and Floyd MacDonald collected three helpers.
Evan MacDonald scored twice for the Outlaws who also received a two-point game from Lachlin MacDonald who had a goal and assist.
St. Croix’s win and County’s loss saw the two teams switch positions in the standings with the Angels having 26 points after 16 games and the Outlaws 25. Pleasantdale leads the standings with 35 while Heatherton, last year’s champions, sit in last place with 10 points.
Last year’s scoring champ Brandon Verge continues to sit atop of league scoring again this season despite playing in only nine of the Panthers’ 16 games. Verge’s 27 points (20 goals, seven assists) top teammate Garrett Lambke by three. Lambke has 10 goals and 14 assists playing in 11 of Pleasantdale’s games.
