ANTIGONISH, N.S. - The campaign to construct a new building for the Antigonish Farmers’ Market, and other agricultural activities, has taken firm root.
That was the message being delivered by Antigonish Farmers’ Market Association president Casey Van de Sande as he was at Antigonish Farmers’ Mutual Insurance, June 15, to receive official support from that company.
“It’s doing very well,” Van de Sande said, noting they are waiting to hear back regarding government funds, from the different levels.
“But the local campaign is going very well … the municipality has given us a donation, which is wonderful, it will bring us a long way,” he added, referring to Municipality of the County of Antigonish support, the campaign received a few days earlier.
The building will be known as the Antigonish Agricultural Centre which is fitting considering the numerous activities planned it will play host to; and, importantly, year-round.
“Not only for the Farmers’ Market but also for 4-H, the exhibition and so on,” Van de Sande said. “And there are interested groups already who want to use the kitchen for community events.”
The building will have greater visibility for those driving on James Street and Van de Sande noted an account has been set-up with East Coast Credit Union for anyone wishing to make a donation.
