Funeral service for the late Marilyn ‘Joan’ MacDonald, 76, Antigonish, was held August 29 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating, assisted by Father Bernard MacAdam. Burial was in St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery, Arisaig. Mrs. MacDonald died August 25, 2018, at home. Readers at the funeral Mass were Cordis MacDonald and Mary Haley. Music was provided by Emery van de Wiel, Grace Rose and Abigail MacDonald. Pallbearers were Joey DeCoste, Stevie MacInnis, Bengie DeCoste, Jerry Smith, Allan MacDonald and Colin MacInnis. Born July 4, 1942, in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Rita (Boudreau) DeCoste. She graduated from St. Martha’s School of Nursing in 1962. She and friend, Cecilia Sernyk (MacKinnon), nursed at Humber Memorial Hospital in Ontario, then returned to St. Martha’s Hospital, working there until 1984. She retired from the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home in 1996. She was an avid bowler in her early years and enjoyed softball and hockey when her children were playing. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and watching granddaughter Candice figure skating. She also enjoyed playing cards, watching TV and, in her later years, going to bingo. She is survived by her husband, Ronnie; daughter, Colleen, Antigonish; son, David (Cordis), Antigonish; three grandchildren, Candace; twins, Barrett, Grace; brother, Kevin (Cathy), East Tracadie; two sisters, Denise, Antigonish; Betty (Richard) Boudreau, East Tracadie; sister-in-law, Joyce DeCoste, St. Catharines, Ontario.
