Funeral service for the late Thomas Joseph Mattie ‘Moochie Tom’, 61, Monastery, Antigonish County, was held August 30 in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie, with Father John Barry officiating, assisted by Father William Crispo. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Mr. Mattie died August 25, 2018, in the Palliative Care Unit, St. Martha’s Hospital. Readers at the funeral Mass were Cheryl MacNeil and Lorraine Brymer. Melinda Stevens and Lana Mattie presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Ty Wallace. Active pallbearers were Carl Grace, Doug Grace, Angus Mattie, Danny Mattie, Donnie Mattie and Eugene Decoste. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Mattie, Luke Mattie, Blair Brymer, Billy Forsythe, Daniel MacDonald, Cedric MacEachern and Ray MacEachern. Born November 9, 1956, in Antigonish he was a son of Mary (Grace) Mattie and the late Thomas Mattie. His focus was providing for his family, as a heavy equipment operator, for more than 40 years. He had a passion for life and delighted in his camps, both Springfield and Guysborough. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn (MacDonald) Mattie; two sons, Michael (Alissa), Brian (Chelsea); two grandchildren, Cade, Aria; four brothers, Angus (Vallerie) Mattie, Gary (Helen) Mattie, Danny (Darlene) Mattie, Donnie (Willamina) Mattie; two sisters, Eleanor (Eugene) DeCoste, Lorraine (Blair) Brymer; mother-in-law, Irene MacDonald; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; four godchildren. He was predeceased by godchild, Donna Marie Grace; father-in-law, Walter Dan MacDonald; grandparents ET and Lena Mattie, Angus and Margaret Grace.
