Adam Anderson of the Heatherton Warriors fanned eight batters in a complete-game 9-3 victory over the St. Andrews Flyers in AGR softball action.

The teams clashed July 11 in Heatherton.

The hometown side took a 1-0 edge, in the bottom of the first inning, when Ricky Bowie crossed the plate, after a wild pitch from Flyer starter Eriq Proctor.

In the top of the second, Cole O’Leary slapped a two-out double, inside the third base line, but his team could not cash in.

The Warriors doubled their lead, in the bottom half of the inning, on a fielder’s choice.

In the Flyer half of the third, Proctor stroked a lead-off single, and then stole second base. Jason Burns followed with a single, putting runners at first and third, before Kory Tate walked to load the bases.

On a 1-2 pitch, slugger Andrew MacIsaac cleared the bases with a double to left-center field, which gave the Flyers their only lead of the game – 3-2.

The Warriors answered in the bottom of the third, with the rally starting on a walk to Joey MacDonald.

Anderson helped his cause with an opposite field double, with a hit batter by Proctor loading the bases.

Stephen Arsenault knotted the contest with an RBI walk.

With no one out – and the bases loaded – Proctor induced infield pop outs from Rielly Bowie and Trent Deyoung, before Craig Bowie laced a liner to center that found the glove of James Briand, to preserve the tie.

After Anderson struck out a pair in a three-up, three-down top of the fourth, the Warriors threatened to take the lead against Lawrence MacPherson, who took the rubber to start the frame, in relief of Proctor.

Ricky Bowie singled and moved to second, on a wild pitch, but an Anderson fly ball caught in deep center ended the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Heatherton jumped ahead, for good, on an RBI double from Jackie MacDonald that scored Josh Wood, who started the inning with a two-bagger.

Aided by a couple errors, the Warriors broke open the game against MacPherson, who took the pitching loss, with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, St. Andrews put a couple runners on, but Heatherton slammed the door with a nifty double play started by Ricky Bowie. The first baseman snagged a grounder, tagged first and then threw to second for the tag out of another Flyers’ runner.

Doubleheader split

In other action on the AGR diamond, the Warriors and Guysborough Broadhorns split a weekend doubleheader.

In the opener, Paul Purcell struck out eight in a 6-3 victory for the Warriors.

Rene d’Entremont, who also fanned eight, took the mound loss.

Ricky Bowie led the Heatherton offense with a single, double, triple and three RBI, while Joey MacDonald notched a single, triple and an RBI.

Lyndon Connolly supplied a solo homer, single and two RBI for Guysborough.

In the back half of the twin bill, d’Entremont finished with three strikeouts in an 11-6 victory.

Anderson, with eight Ks, took the loss.

Connolly finished with four RBI, on the strength of three-run and solo homers.

Elliot Wright collected three hits – including two singles and a double – while finishing with three runs-batted-in.

Aaron Long added a double, while Tristan Richard had two singles. Both hitters finished with two RBI apiece.

Ricky Bowie led the Warriors with two singles and two RBI, while Wood stroked three singles, with one RBI.

Anderson added two doubles and Alex Chisholm finished with three singles.

Acadians win
In a five-inning match-up, the Pomquet Acadians defeated the Carmie MacInnis Insurance St. Josephs Chiefs 8-1.

Donnelly Archibald, with nine strikeouts, earned the mound win over Josh Avery.

At the plate, Archibald contributed a home run and two RBI, while Bryden Boudreau finished 2-for-3, with an RBI.

Chad O'Connor added two RBI, while Dave MacPherson was 2-for-4, with a double and single.

For the Chiefs, Arnold Murphy went 1-for2, with an RBI.
