Donny MacIntosh is a long way from retirement. Although the Antigonish CACL member celebrated his silver anniversary with the group last week, MacIntosh continues a busy schedule, which includes a variety of duties at the Kirk St. workshop and in the broader community. “I love it. Everyone is great,” MacIntosh said with a wide smile as he cradled a plaque honouring his 25 years with the CACL. At the workshop’s annual summer barbecue July 21, staff, co-workers, friends and family honoured MacIntosh for his dedication and tireless effort. “He’s been here longer than me,” Hector MacDonald quipped while making the special presentation. Antigonish CACL executive director Geoff Spencer said workshop staff members speak glowingly of MacIntosh. “They describe Donny as very efficient, a quiet gentlemen, a real extravert – truly a personable man. Donny is both enthusiastic and proud of the work he does at the CACL,” he added. Spencer said MacIntosh has worked in all four CACL shops over his tenure, including providing his talents and work ethic to baking, print services, laundry, and woodworking. “Donny is a real leader in our workforce. He often showing newer workers the ropes,” Spencer said. Along with his accomplishments at the CACL workshop, MacIntosh has worked at the former Robertson’s Save Easy and the Antigonish Visitor Information Centre. Spencer added MacIntosh continues to contribute to the workshop’s outside contracts and community employment, including making deliveries throughout the downtown. An avid swimmer, MacIntosh also makes a splash as a life guard assistant with the Antigonish town and county recreation departments’ learn to swim programs. “To this day Donny is the go to man for our CACL tours – a role he completes with dedication,” Spencer said. “Donny is a wonderful man, the CACL is lucky to have such a dedicated, passionate worker for so many years,” he added. Between hugs from his co-workers, MacIntosh said his favourite part of the CACL is the friends he has made over the years. “It’s wonderful. I love coming to work everyday,” he added.
