ANTIGONISH, N.S. - Looking for work or a change in your current employment?

A job fair, open to the public, will take place March 12 at the Claymore Inn and Suites in Antigonish.

It’s part of a full day of activities being put on through a partnership between Eastern Strait Regional Enterprise Network (ESREN), Immigration Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) and Nova Scotia Works.

The day starts out with an ‘employer summit’ which is a mini-conference for employers and service providers to gather information on the resources available in the province.

The session will include a panel of speakers.

After a lunch, from the 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., set up for the job fair will begin.

“We just came together and were brainstorming on a collaboration [project] we could do,” Matt Berrigan, from ESREN, said about the day.

“Ultimately, it’s a networking program and, hopefully, it leads to meaningful employment for some.”

Berrigan talked more about the job fair, noting how they’re more apt to take place in larger centers.

“We talked about the challenges rural communities have and about how there are career fairs in Halifax, which some St. F.X. and Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) students would go to, and that those [fairs] would attract employers from all over the province,” he said. “To our understanding, there hasn’t been anything done to the magnitude we’re trying to put this at; so this is what we came up with.”

Berrigan said it’s expected that employers who take in the morning session will likely stay and take part in the afternoon job fair.

“And there will be a handful of employers who don’t attend the morning but attend the afternoon,” he said.

“We’re thrilled to have the RCMP recruitment team in town; that is a big one for us.”

The Claymore Inn and Suites is located off Church Street, beside Market Square mall.
