The appeal of visiting Nova Scotia is highlighted by the annual Travel Lemming Emerging Destination Awards, as number two on the list of the top 30 emerging travel destinations for 2020, and the number one North American destination.
The vacation destinations were picked by a group of some of the travel industry’s most popular bloggers, with over 12 million followers on social media, as one of the best places to visit as an alternative to regions that suffer from overtourism.
The entry at travellemming.com calls Nova Scotia “the Rorschach inkblot of travel” and not because it looks like one on the map.
“What makes Nova Scotia so impressive is that it takes on the personality of those who dare to explore it,” says the second-place entry praising the province’s outdoor adventure opportunities on land and sea, regional cuisine and local wineries.
The website lists Peggy’s Cove and Cape Breton’s Cabot Trail and Highlands National Park as must-sees, while travel blogger and awards judge Nadine Sykora calls the province “an often overlooked part of Canada that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Full of natural beauty, historical buildings (some of the oldest in Canada), and some of the best seafood you'll find anywhere.”
The number one spot in the top 30 went to Georgia in Eastern Europe, while Nova Scotia was closely followed by the natural wonders of the Cook Islands in Oceania and Rwanda in Africa.
Nova Scotia was nominated for the awards by Tourism Nova Scotia, whose CEO Michele Saran remarked in a media release, “Nova Scotia is on the rise, and with good reason — we offer visitors an adventure like no other.”
Visitors to the site are invited to vote for their own favourites for the Travel Lemming Reader Awards and pick from a list that also includes Prince Edward Island, at number 16, and stretches from Churchill, Manitoba to Launceston, Tasmania.
Travel Lemming was founded by American blogger Nate Hake as a way to highlight emerging and underappreciated destinations for travellers looking for something extraordinary beyond the world of cruise ships and resorts.
