ANTIGONISH, N.S. - The members of 100 Women Who Care Antigonish are looking forward to starting their second year of operation in a new meeting space.

The group will now meet, four times in 2019, at the East Coast Credit Union Social Enterprise Centre on St. Ninian Street; home to the Antigonish Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL) and the Royal Canadian Legion Arras Branch #59.

“We are very grateful they have offered us this wonderful space for the year,” Sheri MacGregor, co-chair of the group, said.

“We have been absolutely thrilled with the response from the community in our first year,” co-chair Yvonne Landry, who estimates the group raised around $30,000 since last March, added.

The money went to the Antigonish Affordable Housing Society, the Naomi Society, the Antigonish Emergency Fuel Fund and the Antigonish Town and County Palliative Care Society.

Both co-chairs commented that they did not realize how many local non-profit organizations existed.

One of the members’ favourite parts of the meeting is hearing what was done with their donations. A representative from the winning organization, from the previous meeting, is always invited to let the group know the good work which has been done with their donation, over the past three months.

The group is still accepting new members and interested women can either register online at 100wwcantigonish.ca/join-us, or in-person at the next meeting on March 6. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the 30 minute meeting starts at 6 p.m.
