HEATHERTON, N.S. — The 16th annual Heatherton Fun Days are fast approaching.
The Antigonish County community will host their family-fun event from Aug. 9 to 11 with the Heatherton Community Centre and its grounds as a base for the activities.
“This is our 16th year for the Heatherton Fun Days weekend and it has become a fun-filled gathering place for children and families,” Jolene Chisholm, a member of the organizing committee said.
“Activities including cribbage, 45’s, a barbecue, scavenger hunt, washer toss, ‘Chinese Auction,’ archery demonstration, and a beer garden, [to name] just a few of the scheduled events.”
A unique on Saturday is the cast iron frying pan toss; “where you can showcase your skillet athleticism,” Chisholm wrote in an email to the Casket.
“Children of all ages have the chance to participate in a variety of activities such as the dunk tank, carnival games, face painting, parade, T-shirt decorating, cotton candy/snow cones and family movie night.”
Chisholm noted the ‘street market’ will include more than just used items for sale.
“Crafts, baked goods, plants, veggies, and direct sales companies; we invite anyone who wishes to rent a table ($10 each, table provided) to phone 902-386-2810 and book their space.
“And on Sunday at 9 a.m., we will have an outdoor Mass which will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Chairs will be provided, but you may wish to bring your own.
If the weather is not cooperating that morning, the Mass will be held in Immaculate Conception Church. Following Mass, stop over to the Heatherton Community Centre and meet your friends and enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast (10 a.m. until noon).”
Chisholm noted 50/50 tickets will be sold throughout the weekend with the draw taking place Sunday evening during the variety concert which acts as a wrap-up activity for the event.
“An event filled with local talent, music and laughter,” Chisholm noted.
