Maillot Homes’ newest show home is art-forward. Its design is artistic — Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired — while its interior space lends itself to presenting the best of what an art collector might wish to display.

The home was a finalist in the recent BILD Calgary Region Awards in the category of Best New Home $2.3 Million and Over.

The home’s exterior includes strong horizontal lines. From the street, the home is grounded with darker colours, stone and concrete. A trail of riverstone hugs the pathway as it winds up to the home, acting not only as a landscaping detail, but also helping direct rainfall.

The interior, by contrast, floats with white oak floors, high ceilings, open riser stairs, and glassed railings. Views are large and natural light is abundant.

The front foyer celebrates the home’s sense of space, open to above and with ample presentation for large pieces of art.

It’s a home with private spaces that can be enjoyed alone or in the company of others. The flat backyard is fenced and lined with trees, while a covered back patio extends time spent outdoors with a fireplace sheltered from wind. Even a sunny corner under the first turn of the stairs to the second floor offers a nook to lounge.

The kitchen offers scale — spacious counters, tall pantries, generous Sub Zero fridge and freezer space, all centred around a large island. Windows line the wall facing the backyard.

The dining room, meanwhile, is large enough to hold the extended family, but is warm and generous in spirit. Just the setting for sharing an unhurried meal with friends.

Also on the main floor, a cosy front sitting room with a fireplace makes for a quiet spot to unwind, and the home office is private, with doors opening onto its own exterior patio.

Upstairs, the master bedroom’s windows are positioned so that, while sitting in bed, the twinkle of downtown’s lights can be enjoyed. The master ensuite is elegant, and the 600-square-foot dressing room is thoughtfully put together. It has drawers, for instance, under the corner window seat that can hold suitcases — just pull them out and put them on the seat to make packing easy.

The upstairs laundry room has barn doors, which means no struggling in and out of a narrow door with full baskets.

On the lower level, a bar and wine room make hosting easy in the rec room.

The garage holds four cars easily, and the foyer to the garage holds plenty of storage as well as a washer and dryer.

An elevator provides easy mobility between the levels.
