Canada’s oldest legislative building is now the focus of a new book and that will soon be available in school libraries across the province.

Titled "Nova Scotia's Province House" and published to commemorate the building’s 200th anniversary, it is being donated by the House of Assembly to school libraries supporting Grades 7-12.

The book focuses on the building's design, including little known facts about the rooms, artifacts and historic events.

It features an illustrated tour of Province House and includes both historic and modern photos of Canada's oldest legislative building.

"This book captures many of the most significant moments in Nova Scotia's history," said Speaker Kevin Murphy.

The book will also be available in stores across the province.

Province House was officially opened on Feb. 11, 1819, by Lord Dalhousie and at that time was home to all three levels of government: judicial, executive and legislative.
