SYDNEY MINES, N.S. — St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church will be opening its doors to host the 40th anniversary of the Festival of Carols.

The free event will take place Sunday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m.

The event began four decades ago in conjunction with other church choirs in the Northside area.

The goal of the celebration is to bring communities and churches together to sing well-known Christmas songs to kick-off the holiday season.

Each year a different church takes a turn hosting the night of music, with guests coming from all around to hear carols.

This year's celebration will be held at 643 Main St., Sydney Mines, under the direction of Reid Moore.

The Cape Breton Chordsmen will be among the event's special guests.
