ANTIGONISH, N.S. - It is a well-known fact that Antigonish is a tight-knit community. A testament to the community-oriented spirit of our town, a culmination of community activities led to the launch of an exciting holiday fundraiser for Friends of the Antigonish Library (FoAL) – the fundraising board for the People’s Place Library.
Early in September, the Knitting and Spinners’ Circle participated in the Antigonish Arts Council’s community showcase of local artists as part of their annual Antigonight: Art After Dark Festival.
The natural wool spun that evening has been made into gorgeous panels for a classic lap blanket by the Antigonish Knitting Circle, who meet weekly at the public library. This incredible piece of art, and a demonstration of our community’s interconnectedness, will be raffled off to benefit the library.
“The members of the Knitting and Spinners' Circles know how lucky we are that the People's Place Library provides a space for us to gather and do what we love,” Clarissa DeYoung, a member of the group, said.
“It has been our pleasure to collaborate on this project for the benefit of the Library; a place that feels like home.”
Raffle tickets will be on sale at the Peoples’ Place from Dec. 5 to 19. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5, with all proceeds going to Friends of the Antigonish Library.
“FoAL is thrilled at the generosity of the Antigonish Knitters Circle,” chair Sarah Armstrong said. “The library is home for such a diverse set of groups. The funds raised from this raffle will go a long way towards supporting the variety of activities that take place with these walls.”
