HALIFAX, N.S. —

In late April, at the Literacy Nova Scotia Gala Dinner and Auction at the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel in Halifax, long-time Bayfield resident James MacIsaac received the 2019 Maritime Travel Learner Achievement Award.

MacIsaac has been a learner at the Antigonish County Adult Learning Association (ACALA) for the last few years and his application was selected by a Literacy Nova Scotia committee for the $500 award and certificate. The award recognizes the “outstanding achievements of an adult learner in Nova Scotia … [with] excellent attendance demonstrating a commitment to learning [and] exceptional progress.”

MacIsaac was given an opportunity to address the gathering by reading his learning story which he composed as part of his application for the award. MacIsaac will read his story again June 26 at the ACALA AGM and Learner Celebration, which will take place 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the community room of the People’s Place Library.
