SYDNEY, N.S. — The Ally Centre of Cape Breton is holding its annual general meeting on Friday at the McConnell Library.

Open to the public, the annual meeting will present two awards, volunteer of the year and community organization/professional champion, using a harm reduction approach, with a track record of respecting and treating people with dignity and non-judgement.

Dr. Margaret Dechman from Cape Breton University will also do a short presentation on recent research done in partnership with the Cape Breton Correctional Centre and the Ally Centre.

"The Ally Centre works with many people who are recently released and who are often in and out of the correctional centre and other correctional institutions," said Ally Centre executive director Christine Porter via written statement.

"So it is important for us to understand the experiences of those leaving that world and trying to function and succeed when out."

Everyone is invited to attend this meeting, which starts at 12 p.m.

For more information call the Ally Centre at 902-567-1766 or email Porter at [email protected].
