LEITCHES CREEK, N.S. — Nova Scotia RCMP say a female passenger was seriously injured Friday and charges are pending in a single-vehicle crash that happened on Highway 125 near Leitches Creek.
Shortly after 7 p.m. both RCMP, Cape Breton Regional Police, as well as Emergency Health Services and firefighters, responded to a 911 call involving a vehicle that had left the highway, rolled and landed in the ditch.
Motorists who witnessed the collision provided assistance and comfort to the six occupants in the vehicle, including four children. The children were transported to hospital for observation and released Saturday morning.
A female passenger was ejected and sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported by helicopter to a Halifax hospital. RCMP did not immediately know her age.
The driver, a 27-year-old man from North Sydney, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital and released Saturday morning.
An RCMP collision analyst was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. As a result Highway 125 was reduced to one lane for several hours and then closed for a period of time. It has since re-opened.
RCMP say the investigation is ongoing with charges pending.
