More than 1,000 people gathered Sunday to mark Remembrance Day in Antigonish.

After the parade, which included veterans, those currently serving, and members of a variety of organizations that marched along Main Street in the downtown, there was a ceremony at the Antigonish cenotaph, which included the laying of wreaths.

A common theme for speakers during the ceremony was the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. They also reminded people of the Antigonish Cenotaph Project, a volunteer initiative spearheaded by the Antigonish Heritage Museum Antigonish Cenotaph Project as a way to honour and remember the more than 100 veterans from the area who served in that conflict.
