Nova Scotia residents, small businesses and not-for-profit organizations whose property was damaged from post-tropical storm Dorian will be able to apply for financial assistance from the province in the near future.
The financial assistance program, announced Thursday, will help residents with uninsurable claims and municipalities with uninsured losses, the province's emergency management office said in a news release.
Dorian hit Nova Scotia on Sept. 7, knocking out more than 400,000 Nova Scotia customers' electricity.
Chuck Porter, the minister responsible for emergency management, said based on information received from municipalities and provincial departments, the damage is estimated to be about $11 million.
How to apply for the program and more details will be released on Jan. 8, when the program opens.
The last disaster financial assistance program was implemented after significant flooding in October 2016.
