NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — If George Canyon wants to get together, MP Sean Fraser says he’d love to have a beer with him at his place.
Canyon has said publicly he’s heard Fraser is a good guy but that he’s with the wrong party. Fraser said he feels the same about his new opponent.
“From everything I can tell I‘d say the same thing (about him). Nobody has said a negative thing about George to me. From everything I can tell he’s a nice man. He mentioned on CTV maybe that I’d be a good guy to have a beer with. If he sees this interview, I’ll extend the invitation. He can always come to my place.”
Fraser admitted it came as a bit of a surprise to see Canyon named as the Conservative candidate for Central Nova last week.
“It’s a bit of a novelty given the candidate they’ve given to replace him. It feels very odd to be honest.”
But Fraser said it won’t change his approach to the race.
“We have never been building a campaign around who our opponent might be. If you’re focused on who your opponent is in politics rather than the people you’re trying to serve, you don’t deserve to be elected.”
He said they will continue knocking on doors and meeting with people on the local level.
“It’s a grassroots campaign based on this community.”
