Tis’ the season of giving and the Atlantic Superstore in Antigonish is doing its part with their Holiday Food Drive.

“For many Canadians, it’s easy to picture a holiday feast; platters generously heaped with delicious food and all the fixings,” a Dec. 7 press release announcing the launch of the drive stated.

“But for Canada’s 800,000 monthly food bank users, holiday dinners don’t have the same ring. That’s why Atlantic Superstore in Antigonish has teamed up with the Antigonish Community Food Bank for their holiday food drive, which is on now until Dec. 24. This year, Atlantic Superstore is reminding community members that even a small donation is all it takes to enable us all to enjoy a special holiday dinner.”

Antigonish Superstore assistant manager Rob Green said staff does a great job in promoting the drive and customers respond generously.

“Our customers are always great; they definitely support us with all of our initiatives in the community,” Green said, noting they have another going on with 989 XFM which involves giving away turkeys.

“And with the 10 turkeys we give away to listeners, we’re going to match that and give 10 turkeys to the food bank as well,” he said.

“We want to give back where we live, and our customers are very generous,” he said. “Whether it’s supporting the hospital, the food bank, as well as our President’s Choice Children’s Charities; they’re always generous and help us achieve our goals in every initiative we do.”

The release noted what donations are most appropriate.

“This year, Atlantic Superstore is calling for donations of nutritious, non-perishable food items – think of healthy items you would choose to feed your own family – as well as baby food and money,” the release stated.

“It’s easy to donate; simply place food items in the special food drive bins in-store or make a monetary donation at the checkout.”

The Atlantic Superstore in Antigonish is located on Market Street.
