Engineers are testing the structural integrity of the Antigonish Professional Centre building on Main Street after an incident on the morning of Aug. 7 in which a truck collided with the building.
According to Sgt. Warren McBeath with the Antigonish RCMP, an elderly man in his 80s drove his truck into the building around 10 a.m. The collision left a visible indentation in the front of the building from the impact.
Police responded to the incident by cordoning off the parking lot of the building, which was strewn with debris near the point of impact.
“The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution,” McBeath said, adding that the man appeared to sustain no visible injuries.
“We wanted to have him checked out."
McBeath said the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
When more information on the incident and driver become available, the Casket will provide an update.
