SYDNEY, N.S. — A Marion Bridge man has agreed to forfeit just over $16,000 in illicit drug money after being sentenced to a federal jail term on drug trafficking charges.
Police seized $32,875 from Daniel Peter Whalen, 42, after executing a search on his home during which they seized drugs, a weapon, cash and other items.
Whalen sentenced to a 3.5-year federal sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine and marijuana), careless storage of a weapon (a .22-calibre rifle) and breaching a court order by contacting his wife when ordered to have no contact. The offences occurred in August and October.
Several other offences were dismissed in exchange for the guilty pleas.
At the conclusion of a forfeit hearing, Whalen agreed to turn over $16,473.50 to the federal Crown.
