LOCH KATRINE, N.S. — A weekend celebration to mark the 150th anniversary of King’s United Church in Loch Katrine, Antigonish County is fast approaching.
The three-day festivities on Copper Lake Road will take place from July 19 to 21.
After many months of fundraising, research, typing of cook books and church history, compiling stories, pictures, arranging food, sales, concerts and much more, the organizers said plans are falling into place.
"Don't miss this very important event in the life of our church," Marjorie MacHattie, King's United Church 150th anniversary planning committee, said in a July 8 press release.
The weekend will kick-off Friday, July 19, with a meet and greet, from 6 to 9 p.m., at King’s United Church, including the launch of the commemorative cookbook, 150 over 150 Years.
Enjoy the displays, find family in the ‘book of memories,’ various artifacts and enjoy free strawberry shortcake, with tea, coffee or juice, while mingling with old friends and making some new ones.
Saturday, July 20, Emery van de Wiel will lead a memorial hymn sing at King's United, starting at 7 p.m.
Sunday, July 21, King's United Church will hold a memorial service of worship with guest speaker, Rev. Doug Stewart.
There will be a special dedication to brothers, Bill, Harold and Jack Sinclair, by Clan Sinclair, in recognition of their contributions to the Scottish culture in Nova Scotia.
Highland dress is encouraged.
A light lunch will be served following the service.
At 2 p.m., there will be a bluegrass festival.
Apart from the sale of cookbooks and church history, there is no charge for lunch.
A goodwill offering will be accepted at the concert.
