ANNAPOLIS ROYAL, N.S. — One of the most fun days of the year in Annapolis Royal is almost here and it involves about 10,000 Easter eggs, a big bunny, and hundreds of kids.

Easter Eggstravaganza is back on April 20 and includes an Easter egg hunt of giant proportions, and a day full of other fun events that all seem to have something to do with spring, including one activity where you can learn about frog calls.

Easter Eggstravaganza attracts youngsters from across the Annapolis Valley and beyond, with the 11 a.m. Easter egg hunt at Fort Anne the highlight of the day.

This year’s Eggstravaganza is the 13th edition of the event started by Paula Buxton 13 years ago and taken over by the town and volunteers just a few years back.

“Our community has continued to support and grow this wonderful family event,” said town councilor Holly Sanford. “This year is our 13th Easter Eggstravaganza and it would not be possible without the support of our volunteers.”

Sanford gave a special thank you to Buxton for launching the event and who continues to help make it a special occasion.

THE DAY

The day starts early with a pancake breakfast with the Easter Bunny from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Annapolis Royal Legion at 66 Victoria Street.

Then the Winter Market opens from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens.

At 11 a.m. sharp, the Easter egg hunt at Fort Anne starts at two locations – at the town hall entrance for children five and under, and at the main entrance for those five to 10 years old.

Events at The ‘O’ amphitheatre run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. include hands-on environmental education and games with Clean Annapolis River Project. This is where you can learn to identify frog calls, learn all about amphibians, reptiles, and birds’ eggs, and also about early blooming spring flowers. And you can get your face painted.

From 1 to 3 p.m. is the Annapolis Royal Amazing Race for those aged 10 to 14 years, and teams of two must register by calling Noah Scanlan at 955-1205.

And finally, from 2 to 3:45 p.m. it’s the movie Peter Rabbit at King’s Theatre. Admission charged at the door. But speaking of Peter Rabbit, kids who collected golden Easter eggs earlier in the day should hang onto them because the first 20 delivered to King’s Theatre get free tickets to the movie.
