WINDSOR, N.S. — The sun shone down on close to 100 people that walked and ran around Lake Pisiquid in honour of Lisa Wood, who passed away following a battle with cancer in 2015.
The event honours Wood’s memory, but it has also grown in a community rallying cry that supports those in need, with signs and t-shirts that read ‘Hants County Strong.’
For 2019, event organizers decided to help out Inez Rudderham and her family, after she brought awareness to Nova Scotia’s healthcare crisis in a viral video on Facebook.

Emotional day as Lisa’s Legacy Walk held in Windsor
Debby Rose, Lisa’s mom, said her daughter was always quick to help those in need, so having the walk every year keeps that legacy alive.
“Inez Rudderham spoke very vocally about the condition of our healthcare system and her experience and she lives here in Windsor,” Rose said. “She’s been fighting her battle now for over a year, so any donations today will go to Inez and her family through this tough time.”
During last year’s memorial run, they established a scholarship for Avon View High School students. That scholarship will continue on, sponsored by Rose Real Estate, which Debby operates.
Livia Wood-McLellan, 9, and Grady Wood-McLellan, 5, Lisa’s children, also participated in the run around the Windsor waterfront.
“It’s a way for all of us to remember Lisa and to do something good in her name,” she said. “She was always there for others, and the first to help, so this is a way to keep that going.”
Cynthia Ross from the community said she wanted to come out to honour Lisa Wood’s memory and also to support Inez Rudderham’s family.
“I just think about Lisa and what a great person she was, she was a really good friend of my son,” Ross said. “She was a great girl.”
Theresa Wood, Lisa’s sister, was the first to finish the five-kilometre run.
Inez Rudderham was unable to attend the event herself due to health reasons, according to organizers. Over $1,000 was raised for her family.
