KENTVILLE, N.S. — A Kings County man has been sentenced to federal time for committing incest.

The man, who can’t be identified because of a publication ban protecting the identity of the victim, changed his plea to guilty last year to a charge of knowingly having sexual intercourse with his daughter.

The man has been handed a six-year federal sentence, less a three-year credit for time spent remanded in custody. The court imposed a 10-year firearm prohibition against the offender, granted a primary DNA order and imposed a 20-year Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) order against him.

The court also granted an eight-year order under Section 161 of the Criminal Code that prevents the man from attending anywhere children under the age of 16 are present or could reasonably be expected to be present.

The order prevents the man from seeking, obtaining or continuing any employment, whether or not the employment is remunerated, or becoming or being a volunteer in a capacity that involves being in a position of trust or authority towards children under 16 years of age.

The offence was committed in Kings County. Several other charges, including two counts of sexual assault; sexual touching, invitation to sexual touching, touching a young person for a sexual purpose while being in a position of trust or authority and another count of knowingly having sexual intercourse with his daughter were dismissed.
