SYDNEY, N.S. — A murder charge was laid Sunday against two Sydney residents following the discovery of a man’s body in a Rotary Drive apartment on Nov. 5.
Cape Breton Regional Police say Joey Frederick Evong, 37, and Jessica Anne MacDonald, 33, will appear in Sydney provincial court Tuesday on a charge of first-degree murder in the killing of 41-year-old Stephen Richard Rose of Sydney.
Police located and arrested MacDonald in New Waterford on Friday, while Evong was picked up Saturday.
Both have been remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Facility pending their court appearance Tuesday.
Police were called to the scene of a suspicious death at an apartment complex at 297 Rotary Dr. on Tuesday night. The body was sent for an autopsy under the direction of the medical examiner’s office.
Police investigators and forensic identification officers, in conjunction with the medical examiner, collected evidence through multiple search warrants and witness interviews.
Police say the autopsy results confirmed Rose was the victim of a homicide.
The accused and the victim knew each other, and police say they are not looking for any other suspects in the case.
