NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — RCMP divers were scouring the waters of the East River in New Glasgow on Friday morning, searching for items related to a recent double-stabbing in the Town.

“It’s part of an ongoing investigation of the stabbings that took place on Viola’s Way,” said New Glasgow Regional Police spokesman Ken MacDonald.

“The RCMP underwater recovery team is assisting New Glasgow police.”

He wouldn’t divulge whether if the divers were searching for a weapon that might have been used in the stabbings, only saying that “we’re looking for anything.”

In the early hours of Sept. 27, two men were stabbed outside a bar in New Glasgow.

Jordan McIntyre, 21 was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, and for possession of a weapon.

“The suspect and the victims were known to each other the incident not considered a random act,” MacDonald said at the time.

The male victims – ages 42 and 24 – were taken to the Aberdeen Hospital with serious injuries. Both men are from Pictou County, and at least one them has since been released from hospital, MacDonald added.

McIntyre was subsequently denied bail and has been remanded into custody.

His next court appearance will be on Oct. 15.
