SYDNEY, N.S. — A Glace Bay man has been sentenced to serve a probation period along with having a trial date on unrelated offences.

Brian Augustine Deruelle, 44, was sentenced on charges of assault with a weapon (a baseball bat), mischief relating to damaged windows, and breaching a court order by failing to abstain from alcohol.

The offences occurred in Dominion Aug. 14, 2018.

With six months credit for remand time, Deruelle was sentenced to one day in jail served by his presence in court and ordered to complete a one-year probation period.

He is now scheduled to stand trial April 22 on charges of assault causing bodily harm, uttering a threat and breaching a court order by failing to behave and keep the peace.

The offences are alleged to have occurred last July 5 in Glace Bay.

Deruelle continues to be on remand and is to appear back in court Feb. 3 for a status update.
