ALBERT RONALD MACEACHERN

Albert Ronald Maceachern

Funeral service for the late Albert Ronald MacEachern, 82, Cape George, Antigonish County, was held September 23 in Holy Rosary Church, Cape George, with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mr. MacEachern died September 18, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Reader at the funeral Mass was Margaret MacEachern. Stella MacEachern and Darlene Proctor presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic minister was Hughie MacInnis. Music was provided by Ty Wallace.

Pallbearers were Joey Boudreau, Alex Ross, Tommy MacEachern, Cory McCarron, Allan Adams and Gerard MacEachern.

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Alex and Ruth (Conrad) MacEachern. A lifelong resident of ‘The Cape’, he was a fisherman and a wooden boat builder. Boat building began at an early age with his father, who taught him the love of boats. When he retired, he began making model boats and lighthouses. Many of his model boats and lighthouses were purchased by tourists and locals alike and can be found in many parts of the country and beyond. He enjoyed interacting with people who stopped to admire and buy his works.  He was a volunteer firefighter with the North Shore Fire Department and served as Harbour Master for many years at Ballantyne’s Cove. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by four children, Monica (Allan) McCarron, Hamilton; Sandy, Sarina; Boyd (Sherri), Bayfield; Jannifer (Bobby) Burns, Eastern Passage; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Murphy, Margaret (Alex) Ross, both of Margaree; three brothers, Louis, Tommy (Stella), both of Cape George; Tony, Edmonton.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sheila (Boyd); two sisters, Catherine MacInnis, Carmel Forbes.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha's Regional Hospital Foundation.
