ALEXANDER 'JEROME' MACPHAIL

Alexander 'Jerome' Macphail

Funeral service for the late Alexander ‘Jerome’ MacPhail, 80, Antigonish/Fraser’s Grant, was held August 2 in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mr. MacPhail died July 29, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Karen Doiron, Cheryl MacNeil and Gloria Wallace. Grandchildren Dante, Barrett, Cohen and Landen MacDonald presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Tyrus Wallace.

Active pallbearers were Doug Grace, Francis Wallace, John Bailey, Joe MacDonnell, Billie Wallace and Billie MacDonald.

Honorary pallbearers were Robbie MacGillivray, Gerard Cleary, Raymond Hawes, James Ehler and Melvin Layes.

Born in Fraser’s Grant, Antigonish County, he was the son of the late John and Christina (Punch) MacPhail. He was a carpenter by trade, working with several contractors over the years, where he met many life-long friends. He showed a keen interest in sports, recently attending a Toronto Blue Jays game. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs’ fan. He played in the Rural League in his younger years and had many fond memories of those days. An avid card player, he always looked forward to a game at the kitchen table with family and friends. He spent many hours fishing and hunting and was known for his ‘great shot’. Tim’s was a big part of his morning routine, having coffee and meeting friends.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anne (Wallace); son, Derrick (Krista), Fraser’s Grant; two daughters, Leah (Ed MacDonald), Fraser’s Grant; Melissa (Jason MacDonald), Pomquet; five grandsons, Dante, Barrett, Cohen, Landon, Greysen; four sisters, Catherine MacDonnell, Theresa (Doug) Grace, both of St. Andrews; Jean Grant, Toronto; Anna MacPhail, Antigonish; two sisters-in-law, Theresa MacPhail, Donna Chisholm, both of Heatherton.

He was predeceased by sister, Elaine; three brothers, Billy, Danny, Allan; sister- in-law, Rowena; two brothers-in-law, Alex MacDonnell, Rory Grant.

Memorial donations may be made to N.S. Heart &Stroke Foundation; Alzheimer’s Society or the R.K. MacDonnald Nursing Home Foundation.
