Alice Marie Markey

Funeral service for the late Alice Marie Markey, 88, Canso, Guysborough County, was held December 20 in Star of the Sea Parish, Canso, with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial was in Star of the Sea Parish Cemetery. Mrs. Markey died December 16, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born January 17, 1930, in Canso, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Beatrice (Kelly) Kavanagh. She worked at the Canso Post Office, and in the hospitality industry in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. In her later years, she didn’t get out often, but she kept in touch, and enjoyed visits from family and friends. She also enjoyed watching hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs. She is survived by two nieces, Irene MacDonald (Finlay), Donna (Tom) Nowe; three nephews, Don (Darlene) MacDonald, Kevin (Marci) MacDonald, Jim Kavanagh Jr.; two grandnephews, Allan MacDonald, Connor Kavanagh; three grandnieces, Emma MacDonald, Sarah MacDonald, Hope Kavanagh. She was predeceased by her husband Aaron Markey; five brothers Bill, Edward, Cecil, Ken and Jim; three sisters, Margaret, Catherine and Irene; niece, Juanita Gurney.
