ANNE PURCELL
Funeral service for the late Anne Winnifred Purcell, 72, Antigonish, was held July 6 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father John Barry officiating, assisted by Father Gary MacPherson. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mrs. Purcell died July 3, 2019 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Readers at the funeral Mass were Jane Anne Howard, Patricia MacPherson and Roberta Rogers. John, Isla, Charlie, Kate and Alex Purcell presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Ty Wallace.
Pallbearers were Dan Purcell, Wade Chisholm, R.J. Myette, John Murray, Colby DeCoste and Eric Anstey.
Honorary pallbearers were her former co-workers and classmates.
Born Sept. 9, 1946, in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Fougere) DeCoste. She worked as a CNA at St. Martha’s Hospital for 38 years. In retirement, she volunteered, with her husband Bernie, at the Breakaway Cafe, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Knitting needles were seldom out of her hands. She shared her knitting skills with the Afternoon Knitting Group, Antigonish Manor.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bernie; two sons, Paul (Marsha), Barry (Jane Anne); five grandchildren, John, Isla, Charlie, Kate, Alex; seven siblings, Elaine Porter, Waterdown, Ontario; Inez (Wayne) Johnson, Lower Sackville: Louise Myette, Tracadie; Gerard (Bonnie) DeCoste, Havre Boucher; Jean (Rod) Campbell, Sydney; Ralph DeCoste, Tracadie; Andy DeCoste (Madonna), East Tracadie.
She was predeceased by sister, Karen DeCoste; nephew, Jonathan DeCoste; two brothers-in-law, Owen Porter, Jackie Myette.
