A celebration of life for the late Audrey May Facey, 94, Tracadie, was held November 11 in St. Matthew’s United Church, Bayfield, with Reverend Heather Manuel officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Facey died November 5, 2018, in Tracadie. Readers at the funeral service were Ron West, Sandra Tomsons, Erica Fancey and Melanie Tomsons. Music was provided by George and Bettina Nyman with organist Lisa Morrow-DeCoste. Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Stewart and Irene (Harris) West. She grew up in Pictou County where she met and married her late husband, Samuel Facey. She worked at various jobs, including inspector at the gun shop in Trenton during the Second World War, as a meat cutter, and with her husband, Sam, operated a grocery store in Linacy. They then owned and operated Sam Facey’s General Store in Tracadie for 23 years. She was well-known in the community for volunteering with many organizations including The Happy Tracadonians, Martha Home Care, Tracadie Veterans Association, Crime Prevention, VON, and foot care clinics. She was a long time member of St. Matthew’s United Church, Bayfield, and regularly contributed to the Antigonish Food Bank as well as many other charities. She enjoyed knitting, especially socks, baking, especially Christmas fruitcakes and bowling, which she thoroughly enjoyed up to this past August. In her 60s, she began painting lessons and produced more than 30 works of art, which were exhibited on her 94th birthday in April. She enjoyed her annual Christmas-in-July celebration which she hosted for her family so they could celebrate together without worrying about weather conditions in December. She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Tomsons, Tracadie; Margaret Facey (Gary Chambers), Pictou; Leslie (Blair) Fancey, Tracadie; son, Roger (Lorraine) Facey, Heatherton; 11 grandchildren, Nicole, Mark, Craig, Rachael, Bettina, Corey, Kira, Melanie, Matthew, Erica, Jamie; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert West, Ontario; Ron West, Port Hilford. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam; two sisters, Elaine, Dot; brother, Art; son-in-law, Gunars Tomsons. Memorial donations may be made to The Antigonish Food Bank, St. Matthew’s United Church, or the Tracadie Veterans Association. Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
