Funeral service for the late Bernard Daniel MacNeil, 80, Antigonish, was held June 15 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. MacNeil died June 11, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Readers at the funeral Mass were Haley MacNeil and Dorothy Haley. Granddaughters Chloe MacNeil, Ava DeYoung and grandson Rhett DeYoung presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Ty Wallace and granddaughter Ava DeYoung. Pallbearers were grandsons Eammon MacNeil, Connor MacNeil, Keegan MacNeil and nephews John Joseph Bonaparte, Sandy MacNeil and Charlie Bonaparte. Born and raised in Iona, he was a son of the late R. J. and Sarah Lucy (MacNeil) MacNeil. He moved to Antigonish as a young man, where he worked at the West End Market, Floyds Construction and drove a taxi. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and follower of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. He enjoyed playing cribbage and listening to Scottish music. He is survived by daughter, Melanie (Albert) DeYoung, Pomquet; two sons, Bernard (Heather Cameron), Fall River; Darcy, Antigonish; six grandchildren, Connor, Eammon, Keegan, Chloe, Ava, Rhett; numerous nieces and nephews; former wife, Janet (Haley) MacNeil. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary, Dina, Catty; brother, Dodi. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha’s Palliative Care. Online condolences: www.MacIsaacs.ca
