Funeral service for the late Bertha Isabel Mabey, 86, New Glasgow, was held September 28 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, with Reverend Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Mrs. Mabey died September 25, 2018, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born January 14, 1932, in Canso, she was a daughter of the late Mansfield Simon and Lila Louella (Feltmate) Newell. Prior to retirement from Michelin Tire in 1991, she was employed with the former Stevenson’s Dairy and Mayflower Restaurant, Lyons Brook and, Hamilton’s Biscuits, Pictou. She greatly enjoyed participating in the Michelin bowling league and attending card parties at the social club. She enjoyed knitting, reading, dancing, music and especially, spending time with family and friends. Prior to sickness, she faithfully attended St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow. She is survived by two daughters, Donna (Peter) Rice, Pictou; Fay (Gordon) Carty, Antigonish; five grandchildren, Tammy Barkhouse, Darrell Barkhouse, Roxanne Smith, Troy Smith, Jason Carty; nine great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Alex, Stephanie, Riley, Travis, Natasha, Victoria, Kyle, Annika; eight great-great-grandchildren, Kegan, Ryan, Kadin, Kaylee, Kenzie, Lucas, Owen, Lexus; sister, Jean Greencorn, Half Island Cove; sister-in-law, Ann Newell, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Mabey; two sons, Raymond and Terry Barkhouse; two great-grandchildren, Brandon, Nikki; three sisters, Edna Dort, Leona George and Amanda ‘Mandy’ Feltmate; four brothers, Coleman (Blanche), Gordon, Douglas, Stanley; daughter-in-law, Connie Barkhouse; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Newell; brother-in-law, Howard Greencorn. Memorial donations may be made the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment or IWK Foundation.
