CATHERINE GERALDINE MACDONALD

Funeral service for the late Catherine Geraldine MacDonald, 84, Somers Road, Antigonish, was held October 22 in St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish, with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating.  Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. MacDonald died Oct. 18, 2019, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Urn bearers were sisters Colleen d’entremont, Donna Bellefontaine and Betty MacDonald; sister-in-law Kaye MacPherson and son, Jim MacDonald.

Readers at the funeral Mass were granddaughters Jennifer MacDonald and Shanna Stapfer, and son-in-law Brad Himer. Great-grandson Caelen Mattie and great-granddaughter Abby MacDonald presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic minister was sister-in-law Margie Farrell. Music was provided by Ty Wallance.

Born Sept. 2, 1935, in Antigonish, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Margaret (MacKay) MacPherson, Somers Road. She worked for many years in the area’s local restaurants. She loved to laugh and was an avid bingo player.

She is survived by five sons, Lawrence (Mary), John (Annette), James (Deanna), Donald (Donna), Robert (Bernardine); four daughters, Catherine (Bernard) Hughes, Bonnie (Shawn) Corning, Bernardine, Laurie (Brad) Himer; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Elaine) MacPherson; foster brother, Jimmy; three sisters, Betty (Jack Farnell) MacDonald, Donna (Ernie) Bellefontaine, Colleen (Dennis) d’Entremont; two sisters-in-law, Kaye MacPherson (Ralph Mattie), Margaret Farrell;  many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence ‘Laurie’; three brothers, Alexander ‘Ackie’, Robert, Kevin; two sisters, Garnita, Shirley.
