Colin A. 'Collie' Fraser
Funeral service for the late Colin A. ‘Collie’ Fraser, 78, formerly of Big Marsh, Antigonish County, was held August 6 in St. Mary’s Church, Maryvale, with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Fraser died August 1, 2018, in R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish.
Readers at the funeral Mass were Kathleen Fraser and Donald MacLellan. Madeline Fraser, Sophia Valhouli, Jesse Fraser and Cohen Fraser presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Tyrus Wallace.
Active pallbearers were Brennin Fraser, Nick Valhouli, Tanner Valhouli, Danny Wood, Zachary Valhouli and Damien Breen.
Honorary pallbearers were Donnie MacDonald, Varis Rieksts, Roy Baker, Cyril Campbell, Jim MacLellan, Norman Babcooke, Jack Teasdale, Doug MacLean, Stevie MacInnis, Hughie Dan MacEachern, George MacLellan, Jim Sherry, Jason Sherry and Ryan Sherry.
Born October 30, 1939, in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Alexander and Ethel (DeCoste) Fraser. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey and softball. He loved to be outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He worked with the Department of Highways for many years and especially enjoyed his time on the snow plow.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine (MacLellan); two sons, Sandy (Cathy), Big Marsh; Donnie (Kathleen), Big Marsh; daughter, Leanne (Nick) Valhouli, Hampton Beach, New Hampshire; eight grandchildren, Cohen Fraser; Brennin, Callum, Madeline and Jesse Fraser; Tanner, Zach and Sophie Valhouli; two siblings, Jean (Jim) Sherry, Lower Sackville; Claire Fraser, Antigonish; two nephews, Jason and Ryan Sherry; two brothers-in-law, George MacLellan, Lawrence MacLellan.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, the IWK Hospital, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
