Funeral service for the late Daniel Alexander ‘Danny’ MacNeil, 80, formerly of North Grant, was held November 3 in St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish, with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating, assisted by Deacon Art Riley. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. MacNeil died October 30, 2018, in R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Cecilia MacNeil and Gordie MacNeil. Justin Conrad and Julia Cranidge presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Ty Wallace. Pallbearers were Robert Smith, Kenny Farrell, Phil Arsenault, Ronnie McGrath, Lenny Mason and Hank Bouchie. Born October 27, 1938, in Antigonish, he was a son of the late James Alex and Marion (Venedam) MacNeil. He worked as a mechanic and, over the years, was employed by Joe Grant Construction, John McCarron and Nova Construction. He loved music. He sang, as well as played guitar and fiddle. He provided entertainment for many parties and events over the years. He is survived by his wife, Norma (Ogley); three daughters, Carolyn (Stewart) Saunders, Antigonish; Martha Brunette, Ottawa; Danita (Jerry) O’Leary, Halifax; son, Peter MacNeil, Antigonish; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon (Heather), Ottawa; Wayne (Cheryl), Ontario; four sisters, Ann, Cecilia and Alice MacNeil, Ontario; Debbie MacNeil, Antigonish.
